Bruce Bochy is one of the most tenured and successful MLB managers in baseball history. His contract expired at the end of the 2025 season, and he and the Texas Rangers mutually agreed to part ways.

In 2023, Bochy managed the Rangers to their first World Series in franchise history. He was offered a front office role with the team, but it is unclear if he will take that position. Bochy’s 2,252 wins as a manager rank sixth all-time. It just so happens that another team Bochy used to manage in the San Francisco Giants also needs a new manager after firing Bob Melvin.

Bruce Bochy’s former player in Buster Posey, happens to be the new boss

In a recent ESPN article, Bruce Bochy was named a ‘top potential candidate’ for the Giants’ open manager spot.

Now that Buster Posey is the new president of baseball operations in San Francisco, he plays a part in deciding who will be the next manager for the Giants. Posey and Bochy won three World Series titles together while with the Giants in 2010, 2012, and 2014.

Bochy voluntarily stepped down as the Giants manager in 2019 and then joined the Rangers shortly thereafter. He also retired for a short amount of time before eventually returning to managing. The reunion makes perfect sense because of Bochy’s relationship with Buster Posey.

The Rangers have already decided on who their next manager will be with the hiring of Skip Schumaker.

It’s still unclear if Bochy wants to continue managing, which is what makes this hypothetical, as he is now 70 years old. However, if he does come back to manage in some capacity, the Giants would be glad to have him back.
