Kiah Stokes cemented a legacy as one of the best athletes in Iowa high school basketball history at Linn-Mar.
“Oh man I felt like I was on top of the world here,” Stokes said. “I didn’t know what else could happen to me.”
Little did Stokes know she’d win three national championships with the Connecticut Huskies and two WNBA titles with the Las Vegas Aces.
“Coming from Iowa I just assumed I was gonna go to Iowa, so to have other schools come and recruit me was one thing and to be drafted was another thing I couldn’t imagine,” she said.
Stokes recently resigned with the Aces and will chase a three-peat after a foot injury sidelined her for part of the 2023 WNBA Finals.
“We’re still going, hopefully I got a few more years to get a few more rings hopefully!”
Stokes came back to her old stomping grounds to be inducted into the Linn-Mar athletics hall of fame
“This is where it all started,” Stokes said. “Iowa’s always home, it’s always gonna be home, even though I don’t live here anymore it always has a special place in my heart.”
“We’ve been really fortunate to have a lot of great athletes go through here, but Kiah’s just unbelievable,” said Linn-Mar athletic director Tonya Moe. “She’s always stayed in contact with me as the athletic director (and) with her coaches that she had, not only basketball, but volleyball too.”
Stokes gave a lot of credit to her parents, especially her dad Greg, who was a pretty good player in his own right.
“My dad is my biggest supporter, he’s my number one fan,” Stokes said. “Him and my mom are my top two supporters since I was born, always in my corner.”
