- The Voice’s season 28 finale aired on Tuesday, December 16, on NBC.
- One Direction alum Niall Horan’s 20-year-old contestant, Aiden Ross, won the competition.
- Sources tell The Sun that one of the show’s celebrity coaches is “done with the show” after facing fan backlash during season 28.
The Voice season 28 has come and gone as 20-year-old Texas A&M University sophomore, Aiden Ross, takes home the $100,000 cash prize and a recording contract with Universal Music Group. This marks celebrity coach Niall Horan’s third win since he joined the show in 2023, as he mentored contestants alongside Reba McEntire, Snoop Dogg, and Michael Bublé this season.
However, the show may look a little different next season, as insiders reveal that one of these legendary celeb coaches is ready to call it quits with the reality singing competition.
According to The Sun, “Michael has already said that he’s done with the show after this season.” They added that his reported departure “will be a big loss since he’s beloved there” and insisted that “Michael loves the show, he loves the crew, and it seems like he loves his job.”
The “Just Haven’t Met You Yet” artist was allegedly “struggling” with being away from his family while filming the show and facing “backlash” from fans online.
“He said the fans’ negative comments have taken a toll on him and he needs to step away and take some time for himself and his family,” the source added, as fans expressed their concerns for the Grammy winner after an “off night” of “off-key” performances during the season finale.
A separate source, who attended the taping of The Voice finale, claimed that Michael seemed upset after performing with a 14-year-old contestant on his team, Max Chambers.

The eyewitness told The Sun that he looked “frustrated” while telling a crew member that the band’s volume was “too loud” and “overpowering” their vocals off-camera.
“Michael seemed upset and not himself. Not sure if he was nervous or sick, but it was an off night for him for sure,” they shared.

The singer may have also alluded to his exit while he praised his finalist, Jazz McKenzie, during the season finale. “I wrote you last night, I told you, you are the light…this is it. This is my last time here,” Michael said as he teared up. “I leave this show, and let me tell you, Jazz McKenzie, what a way to go. You are perfect.”

While news of his exit hasn’t been fully confirmed, ^^^ this all seems pretty telling.
