A new NFL rumor suggests the Seattle Seahawks could soon trade a homegrown former Pro Bowler.
“With Seahawks star CB Devon Witherspoon returning on Thursday, teams are monitoring Pro Bowl CB Riq Woolen as a possible trade target by the deadline,” sources tell The Insiders.”NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports. “Woolen’s playing time has diminished, and in a contract year, teams believe he could be available.”

After a rough start in Week 1, the Seahawks have caught fire over the last few weeks. Following a 23-20 Thursday night win over division rivals, the Arizona Cardinals, the team has won three straight and is evolving into legitimate contenders for the NFC West crown in 2025.
A major reason for their hot streak is the defense. The unit has played well all season, including in their 17-13 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1. A game where they knocked around Brock Purdy and forced him to the sidelines for the ‘9ers’ next two games. They have limited three of their four opponents to less than 20 points and are currently third in our latest NFL defense rankings.
Riq Woolen stats (Career): 52 games, 11 interceptions, 42 passes defended, 176 tackles
Seattle’s defense played well and isn’t even at full strength yet. However, as Rapoport mentioned, star corner Devon Witherspoon’s return is imminent. If Woolen has not played much despite Witherspoon’s absence, it makes sense that he would be expendable before November’s NFL trade deadline.

Woolen was fantastic in his rookie season three years ago. He was tired for the most interceptions in the league at six, had 63 tackles, 16 passes defended, and an impressive three fumble recoveries. However, he hasn’t come close to recapturing those numbers in his two seasons since.
Nevertheless, despite his production decline, the former fifth-round pick is only 26 and has shown Pro Bowl potential. That will certainly intrigue teams with bad secondaries, especially since he is an impending free agent after the season.
