Prince Harry is opening up about the wisdom he carries from his wife, Meghan Markle, as he navigates the complexities of family and royal life.
The Duke of Sussex, 41, recently returned to the U.K. for the first time since February 2024, marking a long-awaited reunion with his father, King Charles III. In an interview with The Guardian, Harry reflected on the visit and revealed the five words of advice from Meghan that he relies on: “Just stick to the truth.”
“It is the thing I always fall back on. Always,” Harry explained, adding that Meghan often reminds him it is the “most efficient way to live.” He continued, “If you think like that, who would be stupid enough to lie? It takes up too much time and effort.”
The couple, who stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and settled in California, have endured years of tension with the royal family. Harry detailed the strains in multiple interviews, their Netflix docuseries, and his 2023 memoir Spare. Yet his meeting with King Charles, 76, offered what many view as a cautious step toward reconciliation.
Acknowledging his father’s ongoing health challenges after revealing treatment for cancer in 2024, Harry emphasized that “the focus really has to be on my dad” in the months ahead. Despite previously voicing hesitation about bringing his family back to Britain over security concerns, Harry admitted this trip changed his perspective.
“Yes, I would [bring them],” he said of his children, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4. “This week has definitely brought that closer. I have always loved the U.K., and I always will.” He added that reconnecting with longstanding causes and friends reminded him of the ties he still holds to his home country.
Addressing criticism surrounding Spare, Harry defended his choice to speak out: “I don’t believe that I aired my dirty laundry in public. It was a difficult message, but I did it in the best way possible. It was a series of corrections to stories already out there.”
Looking to the future, Harry stressed that reconciliation depends on honesty: “You cannot have reconciliation before you have truth. It is not about revenge, it is about accountability.”
Despite the scrutiny, Harry insisted, “I am very happy with who I am, and I like the life that I live.”
