Zach Bryan posted to social media to promote his new song “Bad News.
The lyrics appear to illustrate criticism for the rise in ICE raids.
The country music star references Immigration Customs and Enforcement, posting “the fading of the red white and blue.”
“ICE is gonna come bust down your door. Try to build a house, no one builds no more,” the lyrics state.
“Well I got a telephone, kids are all scared and all alone. The bars start bumping, the rocks start rolling, the middle finger’s rising and it won’t stop showing, got some bad news.”
Tricia McLaughlin, Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary of Public Affairs, took exception to the Grammy-winning star’s music.
McLaughlin told TMZ, “Stick to ‘Pink Skies,” referring to the performer’s famous song about kids who return home to tell their parents they’re proud of how they grew up.
Bryan, a U.S. Navy veteran, doesn’t make it a point to be political. However, per The Hill, he did make statements in 2023 condemning hate against transgender people.
“I just think insulting transgender people is completely wrong because we live in a country where we can all just be who we want to be,” he previously wrote on his X account, which is now deleted.
“It’s a great day to be alive I thought,” he added.
