The Pittsburgh Steelers have gotten off to a decent start to the 2025 NFL season, with the storied franchise sporting a record of 4-2 heading into the Week 8 matchup against the Green Bay Packers.

Even though the Steelers are coming off a disappointing and unexpected two-point loss to the division rival Cincinnati Bengals, in which Joe Flacco got the best of Aaron Rodgers in a battle of quarterbacks over 40, the Steelers are still in a very good position moving forward.

Although the main storyline heading into the showdown with the Packers at Acrisure Stadium will be Rodgers against the team he once led to a Super Bowl title, Pittsburgh might be getting some help that will significantly benefit the future Hall of Famer under center.

According to Brooke Pryor of ESPN, veteran wide receiver Calvin Austin has been cleared to play in Sunday’s game in Pittsburgh.

Steelers WR Calvin Austin is good to go for Sunday, which is good news since Scotty Miller is OUT with a finger injury.

Austin has been dealing with a shoulder injury, which has resulted in him playing in only four games thus far during the 2025 campaign.

In the four games Austin has played, he has caught 10 passes for 139 receiving yards and two touchdowns, which aren’t eye-popping numbers, obviously, but still another weapon added to Rodgers’ arsenal against a good Packers squad.

As for Rodgers, the veteran gunslinger is having a bounce-back year in Pittsburgh, as he is making many forget about his disappointing stint with the New York Jets, which was derailed due to a torn Achilles tendon he suffered in his first game with the franchise.

In six appearances thus far wearing a Steelers uniform, the four-time NFL MVP has thrown for 1,270 yards, 14 touchdowns and only five interceptions with a completion percentage of 68.6, which isn’t bad for a soon-to-be 42-year-old quarterback that many wrote off after the 2024 NFL season.

Aaron Rodgers to Retire With the Packers

Rodgers last played for the Packers during the 2022 NFL season, when he suited up for 17 games and led Green Bay to an 8-9 record. It wasn’t an ideal ending to his stint with the iconic NFL franchise, but it happened nonetheless, leading the one-time Super Bowl champion to take his talents to the Jets.

During his short two-year stint with the Jets, Rodgers went from being one of the best quarterbacks in the league to a player that some believe should’ve retired after his devastating Achilles injury. The superstar quarterback didn’t seem like the same player after his severe injury, which led many to think he’d call it a career after the 2024 campaign.

Ironically enough, it seems as though Rodgers needed another change of scenery with a franchise known for stability and winning, as he’s hit the ground running with the Steelers.

Despite success with the Steelers in the first half of the season, the consensus seems to be that Rodgers will retire after the season, and he intends to hang them up as a Packer.

With Rodgers having so much success with the Packers, it makes perfect sense that he’d want to end it where it all began.
