There was a pause in Washington play-by-play announcer Tony Castricone’s voice in what seemed to be an eternity for those listening to the 2018 Apple Cup. In the driving snow in Pullman, Washington running back Myles Gaskin had just broken off an 80-yard run, the final few feet on his backside in the endzone.
For Cougar fans it was both a back breaker and a heart breaker, giving the visitors a comfortable margin.
Now, those Cougar fans can finally root for the Husky Legend as Gaskin is back in Seattle, this time with the Seahawks.
Washington’s all-time rushing leader was drafted in 2017 by the Miami Dolphins but had most recently taken snaps for the Minnesota Vikings began the 2025 season with the Baltimore Ravens.
After his release in Baltimore, Seattle has brought the local legend to his roots.
Gaskins’ time in the purple and gold was indeed legendary. The 4-star running back committed to the Huskies from nearby O’Dea High School in Seattle and made an immediate impact as a freshman, rushing for 1,302 yards.
He only got better and better accumulating 5,323 rushing yards and 57 touchdowns for the Huskies, both program records.
In his time in the Purple and Gold, was a key piece of both the 2016 Pac-12 Championship and College Football Playoff team and the 2018 Pac-12 Championship team. He’ll long be remembered on both sides of the Cascade Mountains for that back-breaking 80-yard touchdown in the snow in Pullman, sledding into the endzone
But his legacy also includes being the only conference running back to have four 1,200-yard season.
In 2016 Gaskin and Co. put the conference on notice with a 70-21 victory on the road at Oregon, snapping a 12-game losing streak to the Ducks in dramatic fashion. His 197 rushing yards and a TD as the Huskies totaled nearly 700 yards of offense.
“He’s a true winner and a real dawg,” recalled RealDawgs.com’s Trevor Mueller. Relly, nearly from the moment he stepped onto campus, until his final game in the Rose Bowl, Gaskin will always be remembered fondly on Montlake.”
From Huskies Legend to NFL Journeyman
Gaskin’s journey to the NFL was impressive, if not straightforward. After an illustrious career at the University of Washington, where he became the program’s all-time leading rusher, he was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in 2017. Over the years, he had stops with several NFL teams, most recently starting the 2025 season with the Baltimore Ravens. But after his release from Baltimore, Seattle, his hometown, welcomed him back, giving the Husky legend a chance to perform in front of familiar fans.
For those in Seattle, it is more than a transaction; it is a homecoming. Gaskin, who attended nearby O’Dea High School, has been a local favorite since his freshman year at Washington, when he rushed for 1,302 yards and immediately established himself as a cornerstone of the offense. By the time he left college, he had amassed 5,323 career rushing yards and 57 touchdowns, both program records. His legacy in the Pac-12 and at Washington is unquestionable.
College Dominance

Gaskin’s record-breaking career included being the only conference running back to have four 1,200-yard seasons—a feat that highlighted his consistency and durability. Beyond the statistics, his presence on the field often changed the trajectory of games.
In 2016, for example, Gaskin led Washington to a 70-21 victory over Oregon in Eugene, snapping a 12-game losing streak against the Ducks. His 197 rushing yards and a touchdown were key pieces in a game where the Huskies amassed nearly 700 yards of total offense. That victory was more than just a regular-season win; it was a statement that Washington was a program on the rise, and Gaskin was the driving force behind that resurgence.
Gaskin was also a critical part of both the 2016 and 2018 Pac-12 Championship teams and helped Washington reach the College Football Playoff in 2016. His athleticism, vision, and toughness allowed him to dominate at the college level, earning him accolades, respect, and a loyal fan base on both sides of the Cascade Mountains.
The Apple Cup Moment

Few plays define a player’s career like the 2018 Apple Cup. That 80-yard touchdown run in the snow has become a part of Huskies lore. The image of Gaskin sledding across the frozen endzone, leaving defenders in his wake, is one that fans still replay in their minds, especially those who were in the stadium that day.
“It was just another example of why Myles is a true winner,” recalled Trevor Mueller of RealDawgs.com. “From the moment he stepped on campus until his final game in the Rose Bowl, Gaskin gave everything he had, every single play. He’s the embodiment of a Husky—tough, resilient, and relentless.”
That play, like much of Gaskin’s career, showcased his unique combination of speed, vision, and balance. He could make defenders miss in the open field, and once he broke through, it often felt inevitable that he would find the endzone.
Legacy and Community
Beyond statistics and touchdowns, Gaskin’s legacy is also about community impact. During his time at Washington, he was involved in numerous outreach programs, supporting youth football initiatives and local charities. His return to Seattle offers opportunities to reconnect with the community in meaningful ways, creating moments that go beyond the field.
Fans remember Gaskin not just for his athletic achievements but for the way he carried himself: humble, focused, and relentlessly competitive. His return to Seattle is a reminder that professional athletes can also be local role models, bridging the gap between fandom and hometown pride.
Looking Ahead
As the Seahawks integrate Gaskin into their offense, expectations are cautiously optimistic. He is expected to rotate in with the current running backs, providing fresh legs and the type of explosiveness that made him a college standout. Coaches note that Gaskin’s vision and patience in the backfield will allow him to find gaps and create big plays, particularly on outside runs.
While he may no longer be the dominant college force, his experience and familiarity with the Northwest give him a unique advantage. Seahawks fans, many of whom grew up watching him at the University of Washington, are eager to see him translate that familiarity into production at the professional level.
