Red Sox Fans Are Hearing the Advice: Forget the Draft, Sign the ‘Perfect’ Power Hitter Instead. lt

The Boston Red Sox made the postseason this year, but their young roster could use some upgrades. Alex Bregman will be a free agent, and his re-signing is far from a guarantee.

If the Red Sox lose Bregman, they will need to find a way to replace his production. If he stays, the team may feel the need to upgrade in other spots to maximize the team’s ability to win a World Series. One spot the Red Sox may feel a need to upgrade is at first base.

Triston Casas suffered a season-ending injury this season, and he could miss the start of next season. However, even when he was healthy this year, he was not playing well. He has shown potential, but the Red Sox may be losing patience with the former first-round pick. The Red Sox are likely thinking about winning a World Series now and FanSided’s Chris Landers urged the team to sign Pete Alonso to make it happen.

“The Red Sox have been missing pop ever since they decided to flip one of the best power hitters in the sport to San Francisco, and they can’t afford to wait on Triston Casas as he recovers from his knee injury. Roman Anthony and Garrett Crochet are too good; the window needs to be right now,” wrote Landers. “Enter Alonso. He’s a perfect fit for Fenway Park, and he’s exactly the sort of hitter this lineup could really use, a 40-homer anchor that Anthony, Jarren Duran and others can orbit around.”

Alonso will not be cheap, but he could bring some more power and experience to a young lineup. Unlike Casas, he is already a proven hitter and can better contribute to winning now.

Alonso and Bregman on the corners with young players like Anthony, Wilyer Abreu, Ceddanne Rafaela and Duran rounding out the lineup would give the Red Sox a great chance at competing.
