Prince Harry once revealed the moment he told his brother Prince William that Meghan Markle was pregnant with their first child, son Prince Archie.
Relations between Prince William and Prince Harry may be strained now, but there was once a time when their bond was strong enough to share life’s most important milestones.
In his 2023 memoir Spare, Prince Harry revealed the moment he and Meghan shared the news of their first pregnancy with William, on the day of their cousin Princess Eugenie’s wedding in October 2018.

Prince William’s reaction when he found out Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were expecting a baby
“Euge was getting married to Jack, and we were deliriously happy for her,” Harry recalled. “And for ourselves, selfishly, since Jack was one of our favourite people.”
“After the drinks reception, in St George’s Hall, Meg and I pulled Willy aside,” Harry continued. “We whispered the news, and Willy smiled and said, ‘We must tell Kate.’”
The future queen was across the room chatting with her sister, Pippa Middleton. She reportedly reacted warmly when told, with “a big smile and hearty congratulations”.
Harry noted that both William and Kate “reacted exactly as I’d hoped”.
He also recalled how his father, King Charles, responded with visible delight upon learning he’d be a grandfather again.
“His wide smile warmed me,” Harry wrote in Spare of the moment.
Harry and Meghan welcomed their son Archie, now six, in May 2019.
Fast forward to 2025, and any warmth between William and Harry appears to have all but faded.
During Harry’s recent four-day visit to the UK, he met with his father for a private tea at Clarence House, marking their first in-person reunion in over a year. However, there was no meeting with William.
Despite both men being in close proximity due to engagements, the Prince of Wales reportedly had “no interest” in reconnecting with his younger brother at this time.

Prince Harry’s ‘conscience is clear’ despite tell-all memoir aftermath
Following his UK visit, Harry travelled to Ukraine, where he spoke with The Guardian.
Reflecting on the controversy around his memoir, the Duke of Sussex stood by his decision to publish the book.
“I don’t believe that I aired my dirty laundry in public,” he said. “It was a difficult message, but I did it in the best way possible. My conscience is clear.”
He added that his goal was to correct the public narrative.
Harry said: “The book? It was a series of corrections to stories already out there. One point of view had been put out, and it needed to be corrected.”
Will Harry return to royal duties?
Harry’s recent meeting with his father has sparked speculation that a reconciliation could be on the horizon.
However, despite the reunion, King Charles has reportedly made it “absolutely clear” that Prince Harry will not be allowed to return to royal duties in any “half-in, half-out” role.
“The king is a forgiving man but firm in upholding his late mother’s decision,” a source told the Mail on Sunday. “There cannot be ‘half-in, half-out’ members of the working royal family.”
Harry, who lives in California with Meghan and their two children, stepped down as a working royal in 2020.
The couple welcomed their second child, daughter Princess Lilibet, in June 2021 whilst living in the US.
