Thompson signed with the Steelers in January 2025 after spending his first two seasons with the Miami Dolphins.

The quarterback, who was not scheduled to play due to being on injured reserve, suffered additional injuries during the encounter but has since recovered and rejoined the team.

Members Of The League Speak Out About Skylar Thompson

According to a report from the NFL, a Steelers spokesperson stated that the team was aware of the incident involving Thompson; however, they were waiting for more information from NFL security before commenting further.

The NFLPA Players Association issued a similar statement, saying, “We are aware of the incident involving Skylar Thompson in Ireland and are relieved to know he is okay. The NFLPA is actively gathering more information and working to understand the full circumstances surrounding what took place.”

The association went on to say that protecting its athletes’ “health and safety” is of utmost importance, especially as they work with the league to ensure better safety protocols while playing international games. The NFLPA will “continue to support Skylar in any way he needs.”

Skylar Thompson Is On Injured Reserve

The Steelers acquired Thompson in January 2025 after beginning his career with the Miami Dolphins.

His young career has been riddled with injuries, as concussions and rib wounds have previously sidelined him. He suffered a hamstring injury in September 2025.

Before being placed on IR, Thompson had an impressive performance during the Steelers’ training camp and preseason matchups.

“I was very confident in the work I put in this preseason,” Thompson said, per Steeler Nation. “What I put on tape, I had confidence whether it was going to be here [in Pittsburgh] or somewhere else, that was going to be the best move for me. That really set me free. A guy in my shoes, you have to make the most of your opportunities. I just felt like my mind was on the right things, so whenever the opportunity presented itself, I felt free and felt ready, and was able to play confident.”

Steelers Putting Their Hope In Aaron Rodgers

The Steelers’ starting quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, meanwhile, has been thriving during his time with the organization. He put on an impressive performance during the team’s season opener, leading his team to a 34-32 win over the New York Jets, which included four touchdown passes.

When asked for his thoughts on defeating his former team, Rodgers didn’t hold back, saying, “I was happy to beat everybody associated with the Jets.”

“But there were probably people in the organization that didn’t think I could play anymore. So it was nice to remind those people that I still can,” he said.

According to a previous report from The Blast, the famed NFL QB signed a $13.65 million contract with the Steelers in June 2025.

Rodgers Felt Aligned With The Pittsburgh Steelers

Rodgers’ journey with the Steelers marks his 21st season in the league. Before signing on the dotted line this summer, the 41-year-old said he returned to the game because he felt it was the right thing to do for his “soul.”

“A lot of decisions that I’ve made over my career and life from strictly the ego, even if they turn out well, are always unfulfilling. But the decisions made from the soul are usually pretty fulfilling,” he said. “This was a decision that was best for my soul, and I felt like being here with coach [Mike Tomlin] and the guys that got here and the opportunity here was the best for me, and I’m excited to be here.”
