Donald Trump met with King Charles and Queen Camilla during his state visit to the UK earlier this month.
Donald Trump’s recent state visit underlines the Royal Family’s strengths and emphasised the significance of the UK maintaining a constitutional monarchy, according to a royal expert. King Charles was reportedly apprehensive about the US president making inappropriate remarks ahead of the state visit but despite his expectations, Trump’s trip proceeded smoothly, casting a spotlight on the Royal Family.
PR expert Lynn Carratt has shared her insights on the state visit and its implications for the Firm’s public image with the Daily Express US. Trump’s visit was reportedly so successful that he now wishes to return the favour by extending an invite to Charles and Camilla in the US for a state visit in 2026 with rumours that the Sussexes’ may also be welcomed along.
Ahead of the visit, it seemed Trump was hoping some of the Royal Family’s prestige would reflect positively on him during his UK stay, and it seemed to have worked, with the US President behaving in an unusually restrained fashion and delivering his state banquet address with surprising eloquence.
While Trump did not mention Prince Harry in his gratitude speech, Carratt claims this was just because Harry and Meghan were not in attendance, the Express reports.
Carratt, Director of E20 Communications Carratt said: “While the state visit wasn’t without controversy, it did appear to go well from the side of the Royal Family and without a doubt helped to improve UK-US relations and the public stage has been reset.”
Meanwhile, royal expert Pauline Maclaran, Professor at Royal Holloway, has disclosed the true significance of Donald Trump’s state visit to Britain and what it means for King Charles and the Royal Family.
Pauline Maclaran, Professor at Royal Holloway, has delivered her verdict on the high-stakes diplomatic encounter and its importance for the monarchy.
The royal author said: “I think the Trump visit is important for King Charles and the Royal Family more broadly because it’s a chance to display their soft power skills and, in turn, the value or benefits they can offer Britain (which are questioned more and more in recent times).”
Maclaran revealed the US President’s real reason for seeking out meetings with the Royal Family at every opportunity.
She added: “It is well known that Trump admires the Royal Family and seeks status through meeting them.”
The PR specialist continued: : “In my personal opinion I don’t think it was a jab, I believe it was a deliberate omission, the state banquet was official business for the Royal Family and Donald Trump and as Harry has stepped away as a working royal, it is unlikely he would be mentioned.”
