Patrick Mahomes Was in 'Daze' After Shocking Super Bowl Loss to Eagles | Us Weekly

The Kansas City Chiefs may still be on the road to another Super Bowl, but star quarterback Patrick Mahomes is lamenting that his team has been taking too many wrong turns as of late.

The Chiefs lost another close game Monday, Oct. 6 to the Jacksonville Jaguars, dropping to 2-3 on the season as their Super Bowl odds decreased yet again.

The 31-28 loss at Jacksonville saw the Chiefs’ odds to reach the Super Bowl drop across the board. At the start of the season, both FanDuel and BetMGM had the Chiefs at +800 odds to win the Super Bowl, according to CBS Sports. Now, both sportsbooks have the Chiefs odds scaled back at a +1000.

“We’ve got to be better,” Mahomes, 30, said after Monday night’s loss, according to ESPN. “We’ve lost too many games already.”

The Chiefs kicked off their season in Brazil against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 5, losing 27-21. In week 2, Kansas City hosted the Philadelphia Eagles in a Super Bowl rematch, but ultimately fell 20-17. They were able to right the ship with wins against the New York Giants and Baltimore Ravens, until Monday night.

Despite the team’s three early losses, the Chiefs are still just one game back in the AFC West division and lead the division with 125 points scored this season.

Patrick Mahomes Sounds Off on How to Improve the Chiefs

“We have the guys and we’ve executed at certain points in games and looked really good, but we crush ourselves with penalties and mistakes,” an upset Mahomes said after Monday night’s game.

Frustrated with another close loss, the three-time Super Bowl MVP simply said: “It sucks.”

Recently, both Mahomes and longtime teammate Travis Kelce have made it clear that the team’s goals for the 2025-26 season are nothing short of winning another Super Bowl.

In an ESPN Monday Night Countdown interview with his brother Jason Kelce, the Chiefs tight end said he believes the Chiefs are realistically “a few plays” and “a few decisions” away from being an undefeated team.

“The expectations every single year, year in and year out, is Super Bowl or failure,” Kelce, 36, told his older brother, 37, during their interview. “And the eye in the sky doesn’t lie, baby. You see those first two games, and we were a few plays here and there, a few decisions here and there away from being an undefeated football team.”

Although the Chiefs have a 2-3 record and see their odds dwindling at reaching a fourth-consecutive Super Bowl, Kansas City is still ranked atop ESPN’s Football Power Index, which aims to measure a team’s true overall strength. Below the Chiefs are other Super Bowl favorites, including the Buffalo Bills, the Detroit Lions and the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles.
