A seemingly peaceful afternoon in Los Angeles suddenly turned into a global nightmare when a limousine carrying Selena Gomez suddenly crashed into the median and exploded in a roaring explosion. The legendary Sunset Boulevard, which was lit up with lights, was engulfed in chaos and fire.
According to an initial report from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the car was traveling at high speed when it lost control, spun around several times before bursting into flames. Police confirmed: “There were no signs of life, Selena Gomez died at the scene.”
Witnesses described the scene as if it were from a disaster movie: the car’s frame was shattered, thick black smoke billowed into the sky, and shards of glass were scattered all over the road. A woman near the scene burst into tears: “I heard a loud crash, then saw flames engulf the car. Fans were screaming everywhere.”
Paparazzi were there to take pictures, flashbulbs mingling with the flames, capturing the terrifying moments: fans running in panic, police cordoning off the crowd, fire sirens and ambulances wailing.
When paramedics rushed in, they immediately pulled the body from the pile of scorched metal. Paramedics performed CPR, attached oxygen masks, but the monitor showed a cold, straight line. A doctor in the ambulance exclaimed: “We tried our best, but it was hopeless. Selena is gone.”
Cedars-Sinai Hospital, where the body was received, became a gathering point for hundreds of fans. Crying and praying echoed. The ICU was lit up all night as the medical team held an emergency meeting to confirm the autopsy report.
The world was shocked. On Twitter, the hashtag #PrayForSelena climbed straight to the top in just a few minutes, then turned into #GoodbyeSelena with millions of mourning tweets. Justin Bieber wrote succinctly: “Can’t believe this is true.” Taylor Swift shared: “The whole world has just lost an angel with a pure heart.” The US President issued a statement sending condolences to the singer’s family.
The double incident added to the tragedy: due to the crowd jostling outside the hospital, a section of the fence collapsed, injuring at least 9 fans who had to be hospitalized. Los Angeles police were forced to block off the entire area within a 2 km radius.
Everywhere, fans poured into the streets to light candles. In New York, Times Square displayed a prominent white lettering on a giant LED screen: “Rest in Peace Selena Gomez (1992–2025)”. In Mexico, where her family is from, thousands of people held a prayer ceremony in the rain.
The night of mourning ended with flickering candles, a small light against the darkness. But the pain Selena left behind was so great, turning Los Angeles into a city of tears.
