LATEST UPDATE: Colbert rips into Epstein’s failed attempt to manipulate Trump’s CNN reaction, calling it ‘never a good sign’.th

Stephen Colbert said Epstein’s emails were ‘damning’ for Trump, hinting that the commander-in-chief ‘knew’ about Epstein’s shady dealings

WASHINGTON, DC: Comedian Stephen Colbert took aim at President Donald Trump on ‘The Late Show’ Wednesday night over the latest batch of Jeffrey Epstein documents released by the House Oversight Committee.

Colbert said the late financier’s emails were “damning” for Trump, hinting that the commander-in-chief “knew” about Epstein’s shady dealings.

Stephen Colbert trolls Trump over Epstein emails

The comedian pointed to one eyebrow-raising exchange in an alleged 2019 email Epstein sent to journalist Michael Wolff.

“In 2019, when Donald Trump was president, Epstein emailed Wolff writing, ‘Of course Trump knew about the girls,’” Colbert said.

“Of course he did. They were best pals, and underage girls was Epstein’s whole thing. Yes, the Hamburglar was my best friend, but I always assumed he was getting the burgers legitimately. And then later I was like, ‘Oh, wait. That’s why he wore a mask.”

Colbert pulled out another alleged email exchange between Epstein and Wolff from 2015.

“It’s not the only damning email Epstein sent to Wolff,” he continued. “In 2015, when Trump was running for his first term, Wolff emailed Epstein saying, ‘I hear CNN’s planning to ask Trump tonight about his relationship with you.’ To which Epstein replied, ‘If we were able to craft an answer for him, what do you think it should be?’ That is never a good sign when Jeffrey Epstein is trying to help you draft a response like, some kind of perverted clippy. ‘Looks like you’re trying to avoid questions about sex crimes. Would you like help?’”

Trump fires back on Truth Social

Predictably, Trump didn’t take the Epstein controversy lying down. The president jumped on Truth Social on Wednesday to slam the whole thing as a Democrat distraction.

“There should be no deflections to Epstein or anything else,” he wrote. “And any Republicans involved should be focused only on opening up our Country, and fixing the massive damage caused by the Democrats!”

Trump also accused House Democrats of dredging up Epstein’s name to distract from their own failures.

“The Democrats are trying to bring up the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax again because they’ll do anything at all to deflect on how badly they’ve done on the Shutdown, and so many other subjects,” he posted. “Only a very bad, or stupid, Republican would fall into that trap.”

He added that the email release was a way for Democrats to “deflect attention after viciously closing our country” and claimed those actions had cost the US $1.5 trillion.

GOP joins Epstein files push, White House brushes it off

Meanwhile, on Capitol Hill, the push to release the Epstein documents seems to be drawing bipartisan support.

Four House Republicans broke ranks and joined Democrats in a discharge petition demanding the Justice Department cough up all remaining Epstein-related files.

These include Reps Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, Nancy Mace of South Carolina, and Thomas Massie of Kentucky.

The petition got its 218th signature after Democrat Adelita Grijalva of Arizona was sworn in on November 12, which is enough to push it through as long as those four Republicans don’t get cold feet.

It’s worth noting that Epstein died in jail under mysterious circumstances in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. He was once part of Trump’s social circle, until their infamous falling out years before Epstein’s death.

Still, the Trump camp insists the whole thing is a giant nothingburger. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt dismissed Epstein’s claims entirely, including a 2011 email in which Epstein allegedly said Trump “spent hours” with one of his victims.

“These emails prove absolutely nothing other than the fact that President Trump did nothing wrong,” Leavitt said.
