Kyle Shanahan shares 49ers, Nick Bosa injury updates after walk-off win vs. Cardinals

The 49ers lost one of their biggest stars during Sunday’s 16-15 walk-off win over the Arizona Cardinals.

Veteran defensive end and star pass-rusher Nick Bosa exited with a knee injury on a third-and-9 play late in the first quarter where he attempted to rush Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray but was double-teamed and ended up on the ground. Bosa limped to the sidelines, where he was checked out by trainers and taken into the blue medical tent. Bosa did not return.

Afterwards, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan seemed optimistic, but he also said that the team couldn’t rule anything out with Bosa’s injury.

“No, we can’t rule anything out. I mean, they checked for ACL and stuff there. It was good with that, but we’re still not sure, so we’ve got to check with more thorough things here tonight and tomorrow.

“I mean, there is concern because of how he feels. But, they do the tests and stuff on the sideline when usually they say whether he definitely did or not. And they didn’t say that, but we are concerned with that. Keeping our fingers crossed for the MRI or whatever he does,” Shanahan said.

Shanahan said he hadn’t seen Bosa yet, but assumed he was understandably a little down after exiting with the knee injury.

“I haven’t seen Nick yet. I’m sure he’s concerned, just knowing how he would be. Hopefully we’ll have some good news tomorrow,” Shanahan said.

Meanwhile, the 49ers were pleased with their team’s response minus their biggest defensive star.

“It didn’t seem like they wavered. Any time you lose your best player, guys are disappointed and stuff, but you can’t sit there and feel sorry for yourself. It’s tough enough to play in this league and you’ve got to be ready, and I didn’t sense anything from the guys at all. You didn’t hear anyone talking. Guys had to step it up and it looks like the guys did,” Shanahan said.

San Francisco also saw defensive end Mykel Williams briefly exit but return with a wrist injury, cornerback Renardo Green was evaluated for a head injury but returned and quarterback Mac Jones was also temporarily sidelined with a knee injury but returned.

Defensive tackle CJ West exited with a thumb injury and did not return.
