From Prairie Roots to Public Life
Kristi Lynn Noem and Bryon Noem both grew up in rural South Dakota. Kristi was born on November 30, 1971, in Watertown and raised on a family ranch in Hamlin County. Bryon grew up on a farm near Bryant, later earning a degree in business finance from Northern State University.

Kristi entered politics after working on the family ranch and small business operations. She served in the South Dakota House, then the U.S. House of Representatives from 2011 to 2019, and as Governor of South Dakota from 2019 until 2025. Throughout that time, Bryon stayed out of the political spotlight while supporting her career — managing business interests and family affairs.
