A new book has revealed the numerous concerns King Charles had about William and Kate’s first child, before Prince George was born(Image: UK Press via Getty Images)

While King Charles is known to be a doting grandfather, he was reportedly filled with concern when Prince William and Princess Kate announced they were expecting their first child.

In an explosive new book by former royal correspondent Valentine Row, it has been claimed that the King, who was Prince of Wales at the time, was worried about whether the child would be a boy or a girl.

As addressed in the book, called Power and the Palace, Row claims Charles was fearing for the future of the monarchy if William, heir to the throne, was to welcome a daughter as his firstborn.

The royal author wrote that Charles’ many concerns started to anger Richard Heaton, the former Permanent Secretary to the Cabinet Office, as he voiced his worries to the member of parliament.

Heaton’s frustrations began when he was invited to Clarence House in 2012 to discuss Charles’ charities and their government ties, however the royal ended up quizzing him about the Succession to the Crown Bill.

The book reported that Charles wanted to know all about what would happen if William’s first child was a girl, especially with the planned Succession to the Crown Bill, as his main concern was whether the royal house name of Windsor could be changed if a granddaughter who became monarch married and took her husband’s name.

According to reports by Hello!, Charles gave an example and asked whether the house would continue being the House of Windsor or if it could become the House of Smith, if she married someone with this surname.

The explosive book also alleged that Charles was concerned about the monarchy if William’s first child was a daughter, who would later become a Queen, and she married a Catholic, given that the monarch is the Supreme Governor of the Church of England.

Despite Charles’ many alleged concerns, his worries were quickly quashed as William and Kate welcomed their first child, Prince George, in 2013.

They then welcomed their first and only daughter Princess Charlotte into the world in 2015, followed by their second son and youngest child Prince Louis in 2018.
