As of Nov. 5, the official Instagram, X and Facebook profiles that the King and Queen share were updated with new photos to reflect Remembrance Day.

Remembrance Day is the British equivalent of Veterans Day in the U.S. and is also observed on Nov. 11, commemorating the sacrifices of those who have served in the Armed Forces across the U.K. and Commonwealth.

The royal family has a rich history with the military, and the sovereign always leads the nation at the Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph war memorial in London, a solemn event that working royal family members typically attend.

In order to set a more solemn tone before that commemoration and to draw attention to Remembrance, it’s become a digital tradition for King Charles’ office to change his profile and cover photos on social media in early November.

His team will subtly switch the profile icons and cover photos to reflect Remembrance, and the new pictures usually stay in place for about a week on the official royal family accounts.

Like last year, King Charles and Queen Camilla’s team selected a shot of them attending a Remembrance Day Service at the National War Memorial in Ottawa, Canada, in 2009 for their profile photo across Instagram, X and Facebook.

Their cover picture on X and Facebook, meanwhile, is a close-up shot of red poppies with the text “Lest we forget” and the Royal Coat of Arms in the corner.

The King, 76, and Queen, 78, aren’t the only ones who make this change online around this time.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are also known to refresh their social media presence to reflect Remembrance, but they haven’t done so yet this year.

Earlier this week, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles, Queen Camilla and other family members would attend events for Remembrance, and the monarch wasthe first to make such an engagement.
