Kellie Pickler’s Husband Kyle Jacobs Passed Away In 2023

On February 17, 2023, songwriter Kyle Jacobs took his own life in his Nashville home. Jacobs was married to singer Kellie Pickler from January 1, 2011 until he passed away.

Fans got an inside look at their life together on the CMT reality show I Love Kellie Pickler.

The pair also showed off their love during Pickler’s Dancing With The Stars run in 2011, which she won. During her “most memorable year” performance, she dedicated the dance to Jacobs, who performed a song he wrote for their wedding titled “I Do.”

Sadly, their love story came to an abrupt end and in the years following, Pickler has been embroiled in a legal battle with her late husband’s parents.

In December 2024, Kellie Pickler Took Jacobs’ Parents To Court

Reed and Sharon Jacobs, Kyle’s parents, were named as co-administrators of Kyle’s estate. Court documents filed by Pickler in December 2024 state that “a dispute has arisen amongst the parties regarding certain personal property allegedly in [Kyle’s] possession prior to his death.”

According to the filing, Reed and Sharon demanded that some of their late son’s assets be turned over to them, but the country singer either denied having ownership of the assets or claims that her in-laws don’t have a right to them.

The items include Kyle’s gun collection of rifles, pistols, and a shotgun, his swords, a Rolex watch, a classic Gibson guitar, baseball cards, school awards, and a Steinway grand piano.

Kellie accused Kyle’s parents of entering her home and taking personal property, and that her in-laws have declined to present a list of items they took from her home. The Jacobs are singing a different tune and filed their own motion stating that Kellie invited them over and approved of the items they took. They also asked that her petition be dropped.

Kellie also took part in a deposition, and part of the documents asked that the court seal the transcript and video of her deposition, believing that they would be “shared with individuals not involved in the case.”

In April 2025, the legal battle intensified with the Jacobses submitted a subpoena to Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens Funeral Home & Cremation Center, where their son was cremated, to request documents reveal what items, if any, were cremated along with him and any documents “pertaining to the services provided on behalf of Kyle.”

The funeral home refused to comply with the subpoena.

Kellie Is Handed A Big Win

On Tuesday, November 25, a judge sided with Pickler to throw out the Jacobses’ subpoena.

According to a court order viewed by Us Weekly, the judge said:

“They are not papers for inspection or copying that can be easily supplied to counsel or transported to the location listed in the subpoena. Rather, they are numerous and, in some instances, large/heavy items of tangible personal property.”

The judge continued, “The court is unclear about [Reed and Sharon’s] expectations regarding the subpoena. It appears that [Reed and Sharon] may have expected that issuing the subpoena would cause [Pickler] to simply turn the requested items over to them. Or, in the alternative, they may have simply expected to be given the opportunity to inspect or make an inventory of the items.”

The judge also pointed out that it could be illegal for Kellie to transport some of the firearms requested by the Jacobses, and threat Kyle’s parents only submitted a subpoena and not an actual filing. You can’t subpoena anything without a court order.

This is a huge legal win for Kellie is this years-long legal battle regarding her late husband’s estate.
