Karoline Leavitt is being “smarter” with her makeup, according to a beauty expert.
During a trip to Tokyo last week with President Donald Trump, the White House Press Secretary, 28, took to Instagram with a glowing selfie, where she ditched the famous MAGA makeover for a lighter beauty look.

While her bright blond locks were pulled back in a half-up, half-down style, more attention was drawn to her face, which appeared with little to no makeup. Many fans complimented the secretary on the new look, with one fan commenting, “Love this. And love your glow here.” While many applauded her “beautiful” complexion, celebrity makeup artist Andrea D. Charles was breaking down the difference between her current appearance and her previous one.

She told Irish Star, “Karoline Leavitt usually wears full-coverage makeup with warm, bronze tones and bold brows, which works well in studio lighting but can appear heavier in photos.
Charles said her recent selfies’ makeup “looks softer and more controlled.”
“The foundation appears lighter, the contour is tighter and more neutral,” she explained. “Her brows and lips are more balanced, resulting in a cleaner, more natural finish.”
The makeup artist believes she has adopted a “soft-sculpt” approach, which requires using less product and applying it with more precision.
“It’s about being smarter with the application,” she added.
“This serves as a reminder that the placement of contour and color can significantly transform a look from broadcast glam to effortless polish,” she mentioned.
Offering Leavitt’s fans a tip on how to achieve the effortless look, she suggested, “Switch from heavy matte to a medium-coverage, skin-finish foundation. Spot-conceal instead of full masking and use neutral/cool contour sparingly at temples/cheek lift points. Add a sheer bronzer veil only where the sun hits.”
The press secretary gave her first media briefing for the White House on January 28. At just 28 years old, the New Hampshire native is the youngest individual to ever hold the position in U.S. history. Before she claimed the distinction, Ronald Ziegler was known for holding that title at the age of 29 when he served under President Richard Nixon, starting in 1969.

Leavitt has an extensive background working with Trump, having previously served as national press secretary for his 2024 presidential campaign. She also worked as an assistant press secretary and presidential writer during Trump’s first term, as well as a spokesperson for MAGA Inc.
She stepped into the role as a successor of Karine Jean-Pierre, who served under former President Joe Biden.
During Trump’s initial term, the White House saw a rotation of four press secretaries: Sean Spicer, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Kayleigh McEnany, and Stephanie Grisham, who was notable for not holding a single briefing during her nine-month tenure.
