Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones spoke with reporters before practice on Thursday, reflecting on his error in judgment at the end of last week’s loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“It’s a teaching point for me, a little adversity, I can’t think the play is over, you know what I mean? And it’s a learning lesson,” said Jones, “I thought it was over, thought we had him now, so I kind of thought I was about to celebrate, and then realized that he wasn’t down. And, you know, the teaching lesson for me is, don’t stop.”

Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence was able to scramble for a highlight-worthy game-winning touchdown after initially slipping and falling behind the line of scrimmage. Jones noticeably gave up on the play, thinking it was over, but teammates reassured him regarding the mistake.

“No, I think they understand that I thought the play was over, and they understand I didn’t quit. It was just one of those instances where I thought he was down,” said Jones.“Then I thought we was about to get him down again, and ‘Oh, my God, he’s not down.’ So they understand, they understand that it won’t happen again.”

Jones is off to an uncharacteristic start to the season with only one sack through five games. He will look to get back on track this Sunday night against the Detroit Lions.
