“There is not a thing that comes to mind in terms of — and I’ve been a part of most of the decisions that have had impact,” she told Hostin then.
Back in the studio nearly a year later to promote her new memoir, “107 Days,” the former vice president said that while she does not believe that answer cost her the election, she didn’t grasp just how much the electorate was looking for something different.
“I’m a loyal person, and I didn’t fully appreciate how much people wanted to know there was a difference between me and President Biden,” she said. “I thought it was obvious, and I didn’t want to offer a difference in a way that would be received or suggested to be a criticism.”
Harris and “The View” hosts returned to that now-infamous line on Tuesday repeatedly. The former vice president deadpanned to Hostin that “nothing comes to mind,” to laughs from the panel, when asked whether she ever wanted to scream “I told you so” about Trump’s victory.
Harris insisted that her loss — Trump’s first popular vote win in three tries — came down to the country’s stubbornly high cost of living, an issue that had long troubled the Biden White House.
She faulted Trump for failing to find a solution.
“He said his number one priority and the number one thing he would do is bring down costs,” she said. “That’s what he said and I believe there are a lot of people who voted for him believing that that’s what he would do. Fast forward to today. Prices are higher, the cost of food is higher, inflation is higher, unemployment is higher. He lied.”
