Being down 19 in the second quarter Thursday night left Jewell Loyd and the Seattle Storm unfazed.
The team stormed back, using a 37-point fourth-quarter to rally past the Minnesota Lynx and win 90-78. The victory moved Seattle to 2-1 and dropped the Lynx to 0-3 on the season.
A Loyd 3-pointer gave the Storm the lead with three minutes to go in the game.
Through the first three games of the season, Loyd has picked up right where she left off. In last year’s playoffs, including the Storm’s sweep of the Las Vegas Aces in the WNBA Finals, the guard averaged 17.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. So far in 2021, Lloyd is averaging 20.7 points per game and shooting 42.1 percent from 3, making the Storm even more dangerous as they look to defend their title.
Against the Lynx, Loyd had a game-high 23 points on 5-of-8 shooting as well as four assists and three steals.
Sue Bird also went off Thursday night, tallying 21 points and eight assists. Jordin Canada had 16 points. In total, the three combined for 60 of the team’s 90 points.
