This past fall, Jelly Roll announced that he’d lost 100 pounds, and is continuing on that weight loss journey, gearing up to participate in his second 5k this May.
He recently told his wife Bunnie XO on her Dumb Blonde podcast that he wants to be on the cover of Men’s Health by 2026, and in a recent post on Instagram, he opened up about some of his personal struggles with his weight.

Jelly, whose real name is Jason DeFord, says he used to struggle just to walk down the driveway to his mailbox, especially when he was at his heaviest weight of 550 pounds:
“What’s up y’all, it’s been a long time since I came back and just had a straight look at y’all and talked to y’all. We are training for our second 5k. A little bit over a year ago, I was, I literally struggled to walk down my hill to the mailbox. I mean, it was really bad. And I had let myself get to a point of just being absolutely disgusted with myself.
I was just sick and tired of it, and I was like, man, I’m gonna figure this out. About the time I was trying to find something to motivate me, I had seen that Burt and tom Segura had teased doing a 5k by May. And I knew right then if there was ever a place that I was gonna feel safe to try to do my first 5k, it was gonna be at the Two Bears 5k.”

He explained to fans that he’s also starting a Facebook group for fans to talk about tips for health and wellness, and said that they’re using the word “run” loosely, telling them how much he struggled the first time around.
Jelly also said how “embarrassed” he was to just be “sucking snot and air every time I walked down the driveway,” but explained how much better he feels about a year out from some major lifestyle changes:
“I can’t even begin to describe to people how much better, how much more mentally focused I am, how clear-headed I am, more energetic I am, the happier I am with life in general now that I’m eating healthy exercising, cold plunging.
It’s possible y’all. It’s not overwhelming, it’s just dedicating a little time every day and a little more time than you did before the next day.”

It’s impressive to say the least, and you can certainly tell just by looking at him that he has lost a drastic amount of weight, and is clearly feeling so much better. I think struggling with body image and weight is something many of us can relate to, no matter your gender or anything like that, so it’s encouraging to see him setting big goals and really sticking with it.
That’s a huge accomplishment and very hard to do, and it’s cool to see him inspiring his fans and using his platform to encourage people to do the same.
