WASHINGTON – U.S. Reps. Jasmine Crockett, D-Dallas, and Marc Veasey, D-Fort Worth, dropped by FBI headquarters Thursday afternoon seeking more information about the deadly shooting at an immigration enforcement office in Dallas.

They left empty-handed, telling reporters they are worried over lacking details about the shooting, including the identities of the victims.

Veasey said they’ve been unable to get anyone from the FBI to return calls or meet with them. He decried any attempts to harm law enforcement officers.

“We also care about the victims,” Veasey said. “And I can’t think of any other murder case that has happened in D-FW recently to where there’s just no emphasis at all being put on the victims.”

The FBI declined comment.

Officials on Thursday named 29-year-old Joshua Jahn as the suspect who opened fire at the Dallas Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility, killing a detainee and wounding two others before fatally shooting himself.

Authorities said investigators found notes at Jahn’s home indicating he intended to “maximize lethality” against ICE agents — not target detainees. No law enforcement officers were injured in the shooting.

Asked Thursday by reporters in the Oval Office who he holds responsible for recent violence, Trump pointed the finger at “radical left Democrats” and their rhetoric.

“The radical left is causing the problem,” Trump said. “They’re out of control. They’re saying things and they’re really dumb people. I mean, I look at Crockett, I look at some of these people, they’re very low IQ people actually.”

Known for her fiery approach to political debate and sharp rhetoric, Crockett has likened the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement operations to slave patrols.

She pushed back Thursday on accusations her rhetoric has helped cause incidents such as Wednesday’s shooting and said she’s “not going to back down” from calling out the Trump administration’s transgressions.

She suggested anti-ICE sentiment could stem from the administration setting up facilities such as “Alligator Alcatraz,” depriving people of their legal rights and raiding work sites rather than focusing on people who are committing crimes.

“You have a rogue administration. You have rogue leadership, and it is leading to devastating consequences . . . It has nothing to do with the fact that I decide to tell the truth about what you are doing that is wrong,” Crockett said.

Asked for comment, White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said in a statement that “Jasmine Crockett compared law enforcement officers to slave patrols with a straight face – her rhetoric absolutely plays a role in radicalizing her deranged left-wing supporters to commit acts of violence.“

The shooting in Dallas follows the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot by a man Republican Utah Gov. Spencer Cox has said held a “leftist ideology.”

Many Republicans have highlighted Kirk’s slaying and the ICE shooting as examples of what they describe as a wave of leftist violence. They have called for investigations of “radical left” groups and criticized Democratic rhetoric they say is anti-law enforcement.

Veasey said Kirk’s slaying was a tragedy and the person responsible should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. He also said he cares about the people shot at the ICE office in Dallas.

“Just because these migrants may not have millions of followers and people may not know them all around the country and all around the world, we deserve to know what happened to them, the constituents that I represent deserve to know what happened,” Veasey said.

He also said Trump does not have standing to portray himself as pro-law enforcement after giving clemency to people who viciously assaulted police officers during the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.

“He is not going to lecture me or any other Democrat about how pro-law enforcement he is, because he failed law enforcement when he pardoned all of those son-of-a-bitches when he first came into office,” Veasey said.
