It’s happening — Dylan Cease is set to join the San Francisco Giants in a move that could redefine their rotation. lt

Dylan Cease
While the MLB Playoffs are still in full swing, MLB free agency is quickly approaching and is something all teams, whether eliminated or still playing, have to be mindful of.

When it comes to pitchers available in free agency, one of the biggest names that teams will be trying to sign is Dylan Cease.

With Dylan Cease now available, the San Diego Padres will try to re-sign him, but if he gets a better deal elsewhere, he might be more inclined to take that. One of the most likely teams to sign Cease in MLB free agency is the San Francisco Giants.

Dylan Cease Will Sign With the San Francisco Giants in 2025 MLB Free Agency

The San Francisco Giants made a strong push to make the MLB Playoffs this season, but ultimately fell short with an 81-81 record that kept them two games away from securing the final Wild Card spot.

One thing that truly held the Giants back down the stretch was their pitching rotation. The Giants were able to get a second-half turnaround from Justin Verlander to pair with Logan Webb and Robbie Ray, but outside of them, no one else stepped up and remained inconsistent.

The team has the stars and they have been showing recently that they are willing to do whatever it takes to get this team on track by extending Matt Chapman, and traded for Rafael Devers

With the need being for the Giants to get one more quality pitcher, they must look to go all-in on signing Dylan Cease.

Dylan Cease had a below-par season for his standards, having an 8-12 record with a 4.55 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and 11.5 K/9. Yet he still graded out greatly in the advanced metrics with a 3.4 fWAR. Over his entire career, Cease has a 65-58 record with a 3.88 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, 10.9 K/9, and 21.0 fWAR.

The Giants need another quality starting pitcher, and for where they are, they can bank on Dylan Cease getting back on track and being able to provide exactly the boost they need in their pitching rotation.
