You can always count on Dearica Hamby to be on the frontlines.

The latest example? Her new partnership with MegaFood, theplant-powered supplement company that has been lauded for plant-based vitamins and supplements using real food for over fifty years. A non-GMO organic company with an emphasis on vegetarian and certified glyphosate residue-free supplements, nobody understands the value of fueling your body properly better than Hamby, who is a WNBA champion, a three-time WNBA All-Star and a two-time WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year.

Hamby’s most important role, however, is the role of mom, as she has two children, a daughter named Amaya and a son named Legend. In addition to her partnership with MegaFood, I chatted with Hamby on the importance of fueling your body with the right ingredients, her pregnancy journeys as a WNBA player and why she advocates for mothers to inspire change within the W.

SN: Thanks for chatting with us, Dearica! Let’s first start by discussing your partnership with MegaFood. Can you tell us more about that?

Hamby: I tend to only gravitate to things that I can really connect with and get behind and that mean a lot to me, and like my family. And so I don’t take a lot of deals. This one was like a no-brainer because of their willingness to champion women and support athletes like me.

SN: Awesome! I understand there was some sort of event over this past weekend.

Hamby: Yes! Ali Riley had a game, so we were in a women-owned sports bar in LA that MegaFood sponsored. We showed off the brand, and it was great to connect with everybody.

SN: What do you enjoy about MegaFood? 

Hamby: So I’ve been knocked out with these magnesium chews, and they taste like candy! I’ve noticed that the magnesium chews work really, really well, honestly. So I think that is attributed to the fact that it’s not like synthetic and like there’s real, like nutrient, my body’s absorbing it a lot faster.

SN: When I’ve taken magnesium, I’ve noticed positive changes in my mental health. Have you experienced that as well?

Hamby: Yeah, more positivity and less fatigue, I would say. I’m definitely falling asleep more easily and getting better sleep in general. I noticed the back half of the season, I was falling asleep more after midnight, which is really good considering what I was like doing before. Not saying that I don’t know, it could be a coincidence, but I think the supplements definitely have something to do with it.

SN: You’ve experienced pregnancy twice as a WNBA player. Can you speak to how your journey of motherhood has changed you? How about the importance of supplementing your body properly

Hamby: It’s changed me one, just my process for like my gratitude and my ability just to appreciate life. You know, everything that I do now. I definitely put my kids in the forefront of, and so it’s like, do I want to take this flight? Like, no, I’d rather drive because it feels safer. With MegaFood, being able to control the supplements that you put in your body that could impact your health long-term is a no-brainer. I don’t always get to control, you know, if we’re on the road or something. I don’t always get to control the restaurants that are around, but having supplements and extra nutrients that come from MegaFood definitely makes it easier.

SN: How about being an advocate for working moms?

Hamby: I wouldn’t say like a mentor yet, but I think eventually that’s something that I want to tap into. But I think currently just being an advocate for women, moms, and the W and sports in general, and working moms period, is important to me. You know, I think obviously we kind of know on the back end, I’m dealing with a lawsuit currently. So, uh, just continue to fight for women and women who want to be mothers and also be successful in their careers. And so MegaFood, kind of you know, getting behind me, I know that they also believe in that.

SN: How would you categorize the 2025 WNBA season in your own words?

Hamby: A success. I know you look at our record, and we didn’t make the playoffs, and it’s kind of like, I guess, a failure, but I think when you break the season down and look at the second half of our season, we had the fourth-best record when we had a healthier team. So, I think there’s a lot of positivity in that, and for me, I don’t want a quick fix; you know, I want it to be sustainable for years to come or years to go, and once I’m done playing, like, you know, there’s a real foundation set, so I appreciated the season.

SN: How would you say you have inspired change in the W for moms?

Hamby: I think I’ve gotten better after becoming a mom, so I think that into like the narrative of being able to do both and be successful in whatever you’re doing work-wise, business-wise. I take pride in that; like, my kids go everywhere with me, and they’re still well. Maya’s a terrific student, you know; she’s traveling the world, but she’s still able to take care of priorities, and I’m able to take care of mine. So, I just don’t think it should be considered a hinder anymore; like, we’re past that. Just with my situation with the W…I wouldn’t want anybody else to experience that, you know; like, you shouldn’t be punished for wanting to do what’s natural.

SN: What you’re fighting for is very important. It’s going to benefit so many people down the road.

Hamby: That’s been my thought process behind it, it’s like if I have to do it, then I have to do it, and whatever comes with it, good or bad, like I know I did the right thing.
