Chicago Bears defensive tackle Grady Jarrett and his wife, Aja, in late May paid $4.25 million for an eight-bedroom, 18,241-square-foot mansion in Vernon Hills.
An Atlanta native, Jarrett, 32, had a 10-year career with his hometown Atlanta Falcons before the Falcons released him in March. Two days later, he signed a three-year, $43.5 million deal with the Bears.
In Vernon Hills, Jarrett and Aja bought their mansion through an opaque land trust that masks its beneficiary’s identities. Built in 2014 and situated on a 2.12-acre property, the mansion has 10,874 square feet above grade, 10-1/2 bathrooms and 10 fireplaces. Features include a first-floor office with a private terrace, a second-floor primary bedroom suite with a private terrace and a marble en suite bath with a see-through fireplace.
Other features include a walkout basement with stone walls and custom wood beams, along with a media room, a temperature-controlled wine cellar with a tasting room, and a fully applianced, custom wet bar that has a petrified wood countertop. The basement also has a pool house with a kitchen, bath and laundry closet, while on the other side of the basement are an indoor basketball court, a viewing/party room, a full-theater screen, a drop-down batting cage, a workout room, a sauna and an arcade/game room.
On the first floor, the kitchen has commercial-grade appliances, wire-brushed custom wood cabinetry and a large center gathering island with stone countertops. Outside on the property are custom stone terraces, multiple lounge areas, a resort-like pool with a waterfall spa, a life-sized chess set and a full-sized court for basketball, tennis and pickleball.
The mansion had an $89,148 property tax bill in the 2024 tax year. The amount that Jarrett and his wife paid for the property is one of the highest prices anyone ever has paid for a single-family home in Vernon Hills.
In a brief phone interview, Jeff Ohm, who represented Jarrett and his wife in their purchase, declined to comment on Jarrett’s purchase.
The property places Jarrett close to several of his teammates. Just down the street is the five-bedroom, 3,576-square-foot home that Bears kicker Cairo Santos bought in 2021 for $1.125 million. Also down the street is a five-bedroom, 6,430-square-foot mansion that Bears wide receiver D.J. Moore purchased in August 2024 for $1.675 million. Moore’s 2024 purchase had not previously been reported.
Meanwhile, Jarrett and his wife, Aja, have listed their seven-bedroom, 11,480-square-foot mansion in Sandy Springs, Geogia. for $6.25 million. The Wall Street Journal first reported on that listing on Sept. 27. As a single man, Jarrett had bought the Sandy Springs mansion for $3.5 million in 2020.
