Following the news that Bad Bunny would be performing at the 2026 Super Bowl Halftime Show, someone started a petition in hopes of getting the NFL to change its mind.
So far, more than 1,300 people have signed the petition on Change.org, which requests that country music icon George Strait replace Bad Bunny at Super Bowl LX. This particular petition was started by someone named Kar Shell.
“The Super Bowl halftime show should unite our country, honor American culture, and remain family-friendly, not be turned into a political stunt. Bad Bunny represents none of these values; his drag performances and style are the opposite of what families expect on football’s biggest stage,” the petition reads in part.
“George Strait embodies unity, tradition, and the timeless American music that truly deserves the 2026 Super Bowl spotlight,” it continues.
Comments on the post seem to agree that Strait would be a better choice.
“Why would the Super Bowl in America, hosted by Americans, who most of which speak English, have a mainly Spanish singer. That makes no sense. Have the king of country make this years Super Bowl 10x better than last year,” one comment read.
“George Strait is a country classic, 100x better than Bad Bunny,” someone else said.
Interestingly, there are a number of other petitions on Change.org that aim to get the attention of the NFL. Another petition called “Replace bad bunny in the superbowl halftime show,” has more than 10,000 signatures so far. That particular petition doesn’t name Strait or anyone else as a possible replacement.
This isn’t the first time that there has been petitions over the Super Bowl Halftime show, either. In January 2023, more than 224,000 people signed a petition to get Donna Kelce to do the coin toss ahead of the game that her two sons, Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce, played in — albeit against one another. Back in 2015, more than 70,000 signatures filled a petition that requested Metallica perform the Halftime show.
Bad Bunny is known for his upbeat rap tracks, many of which are in Spanish or have Spanish portions. He was born and raised in Puerto Rico and has a massive following — he has nearly 50 million followers on Instagram alone. He’s best known for the songs “I Like It” and “Dákiti.” He’s earned many awards for his contribution to music, including three Grammys and 12 Latin Grammys.
