She’s not just a singer, nor is she just a single mom who works two jobs. Country star Reba McEntire has proved time and time again that beyond being a singer, she can take on anything: From being a television actress to penning books to a number of philanthropic efforts.
1. Acting in the Sitcom ‘Reba’
Back in 2001, Reba was more or less just known for being a country singer with quite a few hit songs in her discography. However, that all changed that year when Reba debuted on The WB.
The now-iconic sitcom centered around a fictionalized version of Reba and her often imperfect family life, all with a cozy sort of comedy you’d expect from the country starlet. Reba ended up becoming a huge hit and the network’s highest-rated show for years. After six seasons and a Golden Globe award, Reba was canceled in 2007.
2. Becoming Her Own Manager
After divorcing her husband in 2015, Reba McEntire decided to yet again prove she was more than just a singer by taking complete control of her career. Reba and her ex-husband originally formed Starstruck Entertainment together to manage Reba’s career. But after the split, she became her own manager and recruited a few employees of Starstruck Entertainment to work with her. Today, she owns Reba’s Business Inc. in Nashville.
3. Opening Reba’s Ranch House and Other Philanthropic Efforts
Reba’s known for having a big heart, so it only makes sense that she’d take on a few philanthropic efforts with her fame and resources. Back in 1992, she opened Reba’s Ranch House in Denison, Texas. The residence was designed to house relatives of those who were going through treatment at the nearby Texoma Medical Center.
In addition to the Ranch House, Reba has consistently donated to and supported non-profits like The Salvation Army, Habitat For Humanity, Feeding America, and more. She’s earned a number of awards for her efforts, too.
4. Writing the Book ‘Reba: My Story’
…And she can write, too! Reba has released a quite few books through the years. The 1994 memoir Reba: My Story is probably her most-recognized book, as is the 1996 book Reba McEntire: Starting Over and the recent release Not That Fancy: Simple Lessons On Living, Loving, Eating, And Dusting Off Your Boots. She has also contributed work to the Chicken Soup For The Soul series, among other works.
