After watching their team get eliminated from the playoffs by the New York Yankees last week, Boston Red Sox fans have received better news this week.
On Wednesday night, the Yankees were knocked out of the postseason by the Toronto Blue Jays. On Thursday morning, the Red Sox announced that catcher Carlos Narvaez underwent successful surgery on his left meniscus.
According to the team’s press release, the procedure was performed by Dr. Eric Berkson at Mass General Brigham Healthcare Center in Waltham on Wednesday.
This is good news for Narvaez, who has the whole offseason to recover and should be fully recovered by spring training.
The 26-year-old backstop is coming off an impressive rookie season with Boston, finishing 2025 with a .726 OPS and 2.8 WAR in his first year as the team’s starting catcher. However, he was clearly diminished during the second half as he played through his knee issue, causing his OPS to fall from .786 before the All-Star Break to .726 by season’s end.

Now that Narvaez’s knee injury has been taken care of, hopefully he’s able to have a strong 2026 for the Red Sox and build on his productive season. They’re counting on him to be a key member of their lineup and core moving forward, especially with the valuable leadership skills he brings to the table. He also worked well with the pitching staff, getting more comfortable with it as the season progressed and helping bring the team’s ERA down after a sluggish start.
