Grimes’ fans were divided and left “so confused” after the singer shared an eccentric new face tattoo.
The songstress showed off the new ink, a barely perceptible ring near her left eye, in an Instagram snapshot shared Wednesday,
“Spent like ten years emotionally working up to a face tattoo but I guess I drew on my face too much and literally no one noticed,” she explained the new tattoo in the caption, adding that “not even [her] parents” had clocked the new ink, despite appearing in her latest music video.
“That said I think @glyphomancer is onto something truly novel and innovative with her work esp on face tats- there’s a true beauty, delicacy, and innovation here imo,” she continued. “Feel like tats are in a crazy renaissance period that’s sort of under appreciated atm.”
She added on X, “Idky this face tattoo is imperceptible but just for the record it’s my fave tat.”
The tattoo was created by artist Glyphomancer, who specializes in cybersigilism tattoos, which is a modern tattoo aesthetic blending ancient sigil symbolism with a cyberpunk vibe.
Grimes, 37, modeled the tattoo in her new music video for “Artificial Angels,” which dropped on Friday.

Fans were divided on the look, taking to the comments thread to sound off.
“Shoook” one person remarked, while another added, “Is the face tattoo in the room with us??” A third savagely commented, “I remember my first Ringworm.”
“What’s ur favorite pasta noodle shape,” a fourth follower quipped, with yet another writing, “You could have the coolest face tattoo ever but you have this instead. I’m sorry but I’m so confused💀”
Others were enamored of the hitmaker’s symbolic new tattoo. “I love it especially with the blonde hair,” one fan remarked, while another chimed in, “It looks so great on youuu.”
Another wrote, “I dig it,” with yet another commenting, “Gorgeous 🔥🔥😍 like always.”
Grimes — who famously welcomed her three children with ex Elon Musk — debuted a full leg tattoo consisting of red ink in 2023 and once said she wanted to be “totally covered” in “alien” tattoos.
Three years ago, she teased the possibility of ink on her face. “I am very seriously considering getting a white ink tattoo on my face next week,” she captioned a since-deleted selfie at the time.
“Any thoughts? It feels like it’s time.”
Grimes joins an elite group of A-lister’s who’ve added ink to their faces. Justin Bieber, Amanda Bynes, and Post Malone have all been tatted up on their faces — among many others.
