NEW YORK (WABC) — Mayor Eric Adams met Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani for about an hour at Gracie Mansion on Tuesday afternoon.

It marked the first face-to-face meeting between the two since Mamdani’s victory on election day.

Adams announced the meeting earlier Tuesday morning and said his team would turn over documents.

“He can make the determination of what projects he wants to continue, every mayor brings of their pet projects and what I must do is show what we have accomplished and turn over documents so he can determine if he wants to continue or not,” Adams said.

After their meeting, Mamdani said it “went well” and he “appreciated the conversation.”

“I appreciated the conversation that I had with Mayor Adams and his team, and we focused on how to make this as smooth as possible of a transition and how to continue to serve New Yorkers,” Mamdani said.

The meeting comes exactly one month after the election. And the contrast between the two administrations will likely be stark. Mamdani’s transition team is already dismissing scores of City Hall staffers.

Ahead of the meeting, Adams told reporters at an unrelated event that many initiatives are worth keeping.

“I want him to continue that success and I think the best level of appreciation is duplication,” Adams said.

Mamdani cited the City of Yes housing program and trash containerization as two Adams administration initiatives that “deserve to have be built on, as opposed to be discarded.”

“I also have appreciated the work that Commissioner Tisch has done in reducing crime across the five boroughs and that’s a critical part of why I decided to retain her,” Mamdani said.

The mayor-elect added he has not decided if he will move into Gracie Mansion after taking office.
