Jalen Hurts, Nick Sirianni and the Philadelphia Eagles will look to stay undefeated when they host the Denver Broncos on Sunday afternoon at Lincoln Financial Field.
Here are five stats that matter entering the Eagles’ Week 5 tilt with the AFC contenders.
0.95: Saquon Barkley is averaging less than one yard (0.95, to be exact) before contact per rushing attempt this season, per Pro Football Focus. Barkley is getting hit at or behind the line of scrimmage far too often. The offensive line and play-calling — which has been overreliant on inside runs against eight-man boxes — have to help him out.
10.1%: Denver’s Patrick Surtain II has been targeted on only 10.1% of his outside coverage snaps since the start of the 2024 season, the third-lowest rate in the NFL among corners with 300 snaps, per Next Gen Stats. There’s a reason why. Last year’s NFL Defensive Player of the Year, who will likely travel with a frustrated A.J. Brown, is really good. It’ll be difficult for Brown to have a breakout game.
173: Eagles corner Quinyon Mitchell has matched up with an offense’s No. 1 receiver 173 times since the start of 2024. That’s the second-most in the NFL behind only Surtain’s 220 matchups. Mitchell has shown his All-Pro potential this season, shutting down Davante Adams and Emeka Egbuka in wins vs. the Rams and Buccaneers. Will he shadow Denver’s Courtland Sutton?
7: Broncos quarterback Bo Nix has made seven “turnover-worthy plays” through four games. Only four QBs (Spencer Rattler, Baker Mayfield, Geno Smith, Tua Tagovailoa) have had more this season than Nix. Don’t be surprised if Denver’s second-year QB throws an interception or two.
21: Denver’s Nik Bonitto has recorded 21 QB pressures, eighth-most among edge rushers through four games. Bonitto has five sacks, seven QB hits and nine hurries, per PFF. The 2024 All-Pro pick is playing at a DPOY level so far. Bonitto will present a challenge to Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson (and Fred Johnson if he has to step in).
