UPDATE: Tyler Steen returned for the first possession of the second half after suffering an injury in the second quarter.
TAMPA, Fla. — On the Eagles’ final possession of the second quarter against the Buccaneers, right guard Tyler Steen suffered a lower-body injury.
Steen grabbed at his knee and went to the ground. Then, he walked off to the sideline under his own power and left with medical trainers to the locker room.
Veteran backup Matt Pryor replaced Steen. In the Eagles’ Week 3 win over the Los Angeles Rams, Pryor replaced right tackle Lane Johnson in the first quarter, struggled for two quarters and got benched in the second half after Jared Verse beat him to cause a fumble.
RECOMMENDED
Pryor could hold up better against the Buccaneers’ defensive line. He was a decent starting guard for the Chicago Bears last season. Throughout his career, Pryor has struggled at tackle.
In the first three games, Steen gave up one sack and five pressures, ranking as the 39th best guard on Pro Football Focus.
Steen lost the starting job last summer to Mekhi Becton. From last year to this year, he has improved as a pass protector.
