Dylan Dreyer Opens Up About Raising Sons Amid Medical Battles and Family Triumphs.qn

As one of Today’s most beloved personalities, Dylan Dreyer is used to early mornings, breaking news, and unpredictable weather — but nothing compares to the whirlwind of raising three young boys. The meteorologist and her husband, Brian Fichera, have built a joyful, busy household around their sons: CalvinOliver, and Russell, affectionately nicknamed Rusty.

The couple’s parenting journey began in 2016 with the birth of Calvin “Cal” Bradley Fichera. From the start, Dylan embraced motherhood with a mix of wonder and humor, once confessing she was “totally obsessed” with her baby. But Cal’s journey hasn’t been without challenges. In 2023, Dylan revealed that her eldest had been diagnosed with celiac disease after months of unexplained pain and fatigue. Instead of letting the condition hold him back, Cal turned it into inspiration — even launching his own Today segment, “Cooking with Cal,” where he and his mom create gluten-free recipes together.

In 2020, the family welcomed Oliver “Ollie” George Fichera, a rainbow baby after Dylan’s heartbreaking miscarriage the year before. The pregnancy came as a shock — the couple had been preparing to start IVF when they learned she was already expecting. Ollie, now 5, brings laughter and personality to their home, often mimicking his grandparents’ Boston accent in adorable moments Dylan shares online. “He drops the ‘R’ in every word,” she joked. “He sounds like a little local!”

Just over a year later, in September 2021, Dylan gave birth to their youngest, Russell “Rusty” James Fichera — six weeks early. His unexpected arrival sent the couple rushing to the hospital, and after spending time in the NICU, Rusty grew into a healthy, vibrant toddler. Named after both grandfathers, Rusty’s arrival added an emotional full-circle moment for the family. “Both our dads started crying when we told them,” Dylan said.

Now a mother of three, Dylan has been open about the emotional push and pull of balancing work and family life. After stepping away from Weekend Today in 2022, she explained, “These boys are my whole life. It’s all about family time.” Still, she admits there are moments of guilt when her busy schedule pulls her away. “My husband always reminds me, ‘You’re showing the boys that you work hard for what you want.’ That keeps me grounded.”

From homemade cakes to chaotic playtime, Dylan captures motherhood with authenticity and warmth — celebrating the messy, magical reality of raising three energetic sons. Each child, she says, has taught her something new: Cal about resilience, Ollie about joy, and Rusty about patience.

“I never thought I’d be a good mom,” Dylan once wrote. “But now I can’t imagine life without these boys. They’re my world — and every day with them reminds me what really matters.”

Three boys, endless energy, and one unstoppable mom — for Dylan Dreyer, it’s the forecast of a lifetime.
