Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys couldn’t get it done in Week 6, falling to 2-3-1 on the 2025 NFL season after a 30-27 loss to Bryce Young and the Carolina Panthers. Now, Prescott and the Cowboys will look forward to Week 7, aiming to get back to .500 as Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders come to town.
Despite the team’s record, Prescott is off to a strong start in his 10th NFL season, completing 164-of-229 passes for 1,617 yards, 13 touchdowns and just three interceptions. He’s done so despite All-Pro receiver CeeDee Lamb missing most of the past four games with an ankle injury, and despite multiple injuries along the offensive line. Against the Commanders, Prescott will be getting his top target back, but will still be without one receiver.

In the middle of the 2024 NFL season, the Cowboys acquired wide receiver Jonathan Mingo from the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a couple of draft picks. The former Ole Miss star didn’t do much in his first few games with Dallas, tallying just five catches for 16 yards, but was expected to see an increased role in 2025. However, a PCL sprain in the preseason put him on the injured reserve, leaving him sidelined for the first six games.
To start October, Dallas opened Mingo’s 21-day practice window, meaning he must be activated to the 53-man roster by Wednesday or miss the entire season. However, the Cowboys have yet to make that move, even after Mingo practiced in full on Friday, and have ruled him questionable for Sunday’s game.
While his chances of playing in Week 7 appeared to be improving, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said Mingo likely won’t suit up against the Commanders. But cornerback Caelen Carson, who has also been on IR all season, should be able to make his 2025 debut.
“It’ll be ‘probably next week’ for Jonathan Mingo returning from IR — per SJ to 105.3 the Fan,” wrote Cowboys staff writer Patrick Walker. “The #Cowboys have until Wednesday to activate him or his season will end. Caelen Carson will be activated from IR this weekend, per SJ (this was slated to happen even before Diggs news).”
The Cowboys will face the Commanders on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
