Cody Johnson shocked his fans this week when he abruptly announced that he was canceling the rest of his tour dates for 2025 as he headed into an emergency surgery.
“It is with a heavy heart I have to share the remainder of this year’s concert performances will not be able to happen,” Johnson shared in a statement posted to his X account on Tuesday. “While battling a severe upper respiratory and sinus infection, I burst my ear drum. The severity of the rupture means I must undergo immediate surgery.
“The healing process will take many weeks, and it is not possible for me to sing during this time,” he continued. “Without the surgery my downtime could be months. I pray for full healing so I can get well and return to doing what I love. Thank you COJO Nation for the love and support now, and always.”
And when Johnson said “immediate” he meant it because he checked in later that afternoon to let fans know how the surgery went.
“Went well,” he said. “As best as they could’ve expected.”
People Magazine reported that the 38 year old singer had six shows left on his tour for 2025. That was set to include an Oct. 18 stop at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh. His 2026 tour is slated to begin in February with him performing shows through July.
That includes a March 7 stop at the CGF Bank Arena in Baltimore.
People reported that Johnson postponed his shows in Columbus, Ohio back in September after he said he woke up “without a singing voice; severe cough, burning chest and throat.”
