Country Favorite Cody Johnson Halts His Tour After a Ruptured Eardrum — and His Message to Fans Says It All. WN

The country music star has ended his 2025 arena tour early after having to get emergency surgery.

WASHINGTON — Country music star Cody Johnson has canceled the remaining dates of his 2025 arena tour after rupturing his eardrum, requiring immediate surgery.

Johnson announced the news on social media Tuesday, telling fans that the injury occurred while he was battling a severe upper respiratory and sinus infection. He said the rupture was serious enough to require surgery and weeks of recovery, making it impossible for him to continue performing this year.

“The healing process will take many weeks, and it is not possible for me to sing during this time,” he wrote. “Without the surgery, my downtime could be months.”

The Texas native shared a follow-up video after the procedure, with a bandage over his left ear, saying he was home from surgery and that “it went well, as best as they could have expected.”

Johnson had six tour stops remaining on his schedule, including in Pittsburgh, Birmingham, Alabama, Phoenix, Las Vegas and the Boots in the Bayou festival in Louisiana. Fans are instructed to look out for emails from their ticket providers for refund or rescheduling information.

This marks the second time in recent weeks that Johnson has had to cancel shows due to health concerns. In mid-September, he postponed a pair of dates in Columbus, Ohio, after losing his voice, citing a cough, chest pain and sore throat.

While Johnson didn’t indicate when he expects to return to the stage, his next scheduled performance is listed as Feb. 14, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky. He was also recently named one of the headliners for the 2026 Stagecoach Festival in California, alongside Post Malone and Lainey Wilson.

Johnson is among the leading nominees heading into the CMA Awards in November, earning four nominations, the most of any male artist, including entertainer of the year, male vocalist of the year, music event of the year and music video of the year for his duet with Carrie Underwood, “I’m Gonna Love You.”
