The Philadelphia Eagles are off to a 4-0 start, which has helped mask what is a big issue at the cornerback position.
While Philly has two very good cornerbacks in Quinyon Mitchell on the boundary and Cooper DeJean in the slot, the other boundary spot is not secure.
The Eagles made a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders for Jakorian Bennett, but he is currently on injured reserve, leaving two lackluster options in Adoree’ Jackson and Kelee Ringo, both of whom have proven to be less-than-ideal options, to put it nicely.
Because of their glaring hole, On SI’s Tim Weaver has suggested the Eagles as a team that could have interest in Seattle Seahawks cornerback, Riq Woolen.
One team that’s never afraid to take a big risk are the reigning Super Bowl champion Eagles. While they are 3-0 to start the season, their cornerbacks haven’t been playing well at all. Jakorian Bennett is grading out only a point and a half higher than Marshall and Adoree Jackson ranks 145th at the position right now. If Nick Siranni thinks he can get the best out of Woolen, a trade could help put Philadelphia over the top again.
Trade rumors started heating up around Woolen over the weekend after NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport revealed teams believe he’ll be available.
With the return of Devon Witherspoon from injury and the emergences of former Eagle Josh Jobe and Derion Kendrick, it’s possible Woolen is expendable.
And, the fact that he’s in a contract year only adds to the chances of him being traded.
Woolen looked to be on a star trajectory after earning a Pro Bowl nod in his first season, but he has seemingly fallen out of favor in Seattle in recent years and he hasn’t been able to recreate the success he had in 2022.
That said, Woolen’s career coverage numbers are pretty good, with the 26-year-old giving up a completion rate of 54.7% and a passer rating of 71.9 over 52 games.
Through four games in 2025, Woolen is surrendering a completion rate of 61.1% and a passer rating of 106.7.
Woolen isn’t a guarantee to solve Philly’s problem, but then again, there isn’t going to be anyone available right now who is.
Woolen would be a worthwhile addition for the Eagles in their quest to solve what is arguably the defense’s biggest issue right now.
