A child in Iowa may have saved their mother’s life after passing a note to a school bus driver that read, “Call 911.”

The student passed the note to the driver just before 7:30 a.m. local time on Wednesday, Sept. 24, according to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO), per News 13, ABC 6 and CBS 2. The driver alerted authorities, and police then went to a home in Westgate, a rural area of the county, to investigate, per News 13 and ABC 6.

Upon arriving at the home, police found that the child’s mother was allegedly being held against her will by 29-year-old Glenroy Miller of the Bahamas.

Miller is accused of having assaulted the woman several times throughout the night, kicking her with enough force to break two ribs and puncture her lung, per News 13.
