Earlier today, when Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson met with the media, he announced the 21-day practice window has officially opened for Defensive End Austin Booker and Running Back Travis Homer.
At first glance, these reinforcements come at an opportune time. While Homer figures to contribute more on Special Teams, Booker could play a more integral role in the immediate future.
Coach Johnson had this to say about his struggling running backs and running game at this point in the season:
“Our guys are going to be fine. It’s not always the runners – it’s everybody. It’s the quarterback carrying out his fake, it’s the receivers blocking down the field, the right ends doing their job and the same thing with the offensive line.”
Considering the Bears rank dead last league-wide in sacks so far this season, and the 2nd year pro from Kansas led the entire league with four sacks this preseason, it is safe to say Austin Booker’s return will be much more highly anticipated. It remains to be seen, however, whether both he and Travis Homer will be able to crack the active roster for this Monday night’s game against the Commanders, or if we will have to wait another week or two to see them in action.
