Carrie Underwood Reveals Hilarious “Cure” for Viral Gen Alpha Slang That’s Taking Over American Idol.rub

Carrie Underwood revealed how she reacts to kids using a viral slang term in a new promo for American Idol.

Carrie Underwood Shares Never-Before-Seen Photos From Being 'American Idol' Contestant

Underwood shared the Idol clip from the upcoming season on Thursday (November 20). A contestant brought up “6-7,” an immensely popular slang term, particularly among Gen Alpha, that appears to have no real meaning. The viral meme earned Dictionary.com’s 2025 Word of the Year title.

“Here’s how we stop that, Uzziah. I have the cure,” Underwood said in the American Idol promo (appropriately, shared on Instagram 67 days ahead of the season premiere). “Every time the kids say ‘6-7,’ we have to immediately say ‘5-3-0-9,’ she sang, nodding to Tommy Tutone’s 80s classic, “867-5309/Jenny.” “And if we all band together and do that, it will stop. It’s gonna take all of us.”

Carrie Underwood's return to American Idol leads to major change for season 23 - and shakeup leaves judge 'emotional'

Underwood is gearing up for her second season as an American Idol judge. She returned to the competition show in time to celebrate two decades since her own run as a contestant — and her career-launching win — on the show’s fourth season in 2005. Underwood joins Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie on the panel of judges, and reunites with longtime host Ryan Seacrest, who crowned Underwood the Idol winner 20 years ago. Underwood recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of her debut studio record, Some Hearts, with an 18-track edition that includes live renditions of “Wasted,” “Some Hearts,” “Jesus, Take The Wheel,” and “Inside Your Heaven.”

American Idol kicks off on Monday, January 26. The show will air on ABC and stream on Hulu.Carrie Underwood Reveals Hilarious “Cure” for Viral Gen Alpha Slang That’s Taking Over American Idol
