The New England Patriots are enjoying a fantastic start to the 2025 NFL season, as the team is 4-2 heading into their Week 7 matchup versus the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium.
Though New England is experiencing a ton of early-season success, one Patriots player who was a starter for the team’s defense in 2023 and 2024 has been lost in the fold.
Linebacker Anfernee Jennings was once considered a future building block on New England’s defense, as he has started 30 games over the last two seasons. However, Jennings lost his starting spot in 2025 to Christian Elliss, and it doesn’t look like the 28-year-old has a long-term future with the Patriots.
With Jennings’ role decreasing tremendously this season, a trade out of New England makes a ton of sense. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Saturday that teams around the league are monitoring Jennings’ availability ahead of the November 4th deadline.
“Patriots linebacker Anfernee Jennings, a starter the past two seasons, has been relegated to backup duties and teams in need of depth have mentioned his name as a possible trade candidate,” Rapoport wrote.
Keeping Jennings as a depth piece would be an understandable move from the Patriots. However, if a team offers New England a nice trade package for the Alabama product, trading him would be a no-brainer.
If Jennings gets traded, it would likely be to a team that needs more depth in their linebacker room. The veteran defender would provide just that, but also has valuable starting experience.
Jennings was a healthy scratch for the Patriots’ contest versus the Titans on Sunday, which signals that his time in New England could be coming to an end.
