Packers Place Jayden Reed on Injured Reserve After Collarbone Surgery

The Green Bay Packers received another tough blow to their receiving corps as wide receiver Jayden Reed was officially placed on injured reserve (IR) on Saturday, the team announced.

Surgery and Recovery Timeline

Earlier this week, Reed underwent successful surgery to repair both a broken collarbone and a lingering foot injury. The 2023 second-round pick had been battling through the foot issue since training camp, showing resilience by continuing to play through discomfort. Unfortunately, things took a turn in the Week 2 win over the Washington Commanders on September 11, when Reed suffered the collarbone injury that ultimately required surgery.

Impact on the Roster

With Reed sidelined, the Packers now have two open roster spots, following the placement of defensive end Brenton Cox Jr. on injured reserve just last week. The team has not yet made a corresponding move, though roster adjustments are expected in the coming days.

Wide Receiver Depth Going Forward

Until Reed returns—he must miss at least four games under IR rules—the Packers’ receiving group will rely heavily on Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, Matthew Golden, Savion Williams, and Malik Heath.
The practice squad remains an option for depth, featuring veteran Mecole Hardman and rookies Will Sheppard and Isaiah Neyor, who could be called up if injuries continue to mount.

Looking Ahead

Reed’s absence will certainly be felt in the Packers’ offensive rhythm, as he was emerging as one of quarterback Jordan Love’s most reliable targets early in the season. His recovery will be closely monitored, with optimism that he could return later this season if rehab progresses smoothly.
