Two-time WNBA All-Star Angel Reese said Wednesday night that she had apologized to her Chicago Sky teammates for comments she made in an interview with the Chicago Tribune, which were published earlier that day. In the article, Reese expressed frustration with the team’s ongoing struggles and hinted that she might consider leaving if the roster didn’t improve in the future.
Following the Sky’s 88-64 win over the Connecticut Sun, Reese was asked about her level of frustration with the organization. The victory brought the team to a 10-30 record in a season where they were officially eliminated from playoff contention for the second straight year, going 3-15 since the All-Star break.
“I’m probably more frustrated with myself right now,” Reese said during the postgame press conference. “I think my words were taken out of context. I never intended to criticize my teammates — they’ve worked just as hard as I have all season. They’ve supported me through everything, on and off the court, even when no one else was watching.”
Reese added that she had already apologized to her teammates for how the article came across. “I need to be more careful with how I express myself. It’s not always about the message — it’s about the messenger. I’ve realized that what I say can be interpreted in different ways. I need to learn from this and grow.”
