Jelly Roll was noticeably absent from the 2025 Grammy Awards , despite being nominated in two categories. He didn’t give a reason for not attending, but he’s certainly had a busy schedule. Between touring the country, performing at FireAid , hosting a concert for first responders, and making his acting debut in Fire Country, we now know the “I’m Not Okay” singer is taking on a whole new challenge.

Jelly Roll will be joining American Idol for season 23 in his first role. He has appeared on the singing competition show as a mentor and performer, but this year he will take on the role of Artist in Residence for aspiring contestants.

Jelly Roll shared the news on social media along with a video of himself celebrating with Idol host Ryan Seacrest. He picked Ryan up and spun him around, saying: “I feel like I’m giving them the energy they need. I’m encouraging them and trying to help them move forward.”
