For the longest time, one of Major League Baseball’s biggest issues was the promotion of their own players. Someone like Mike Trout, who WAS on pace to be one of the greatest players of all time, was rather forgotten about on the Angels. It almost came off like they didn’t want to grow their sport at all. It certainly didn’t help that if you tweeted out an unofficial clip they’d send the FBI after your family and threaten them at gunpoint.
Thankfully, once guys like Ohtani and Judge rose to superstardom they began to get the idea, especially when it came to Shohei. It finally clicked that they needed to spread the word of their generational athletes anyway they could. In Ohtani’s case, if you can attract an additional continent to view your sport it’s probably a good idea. As a result Shohei was shoved down our throat. And don’t get me wrong, it’s fucking absurd what he’s able to do on a baseball field. Truly a once in a lifetime player.
