Stephen Colbert Breaks Silence on CBS Firing With Savage Joke That Stole the Emmys Spotlight.qn

Stephen Colbert mocked his soon-to-be former employer, CBS, during his appearance at the 2025 Emmy Awards.

“While I have your attention, is anyone hiring?” “The Late Show” host teased after receiving a standing ovation from the audience.

The comedian joked with the starry Emmy crowd, telling them that he had “brought my own resume here tonight,” but noted that “I haven’t had a chance to update my headshot.”

Colbert then pulled out a rather dated headshot.

“I think it still works,” he joked before adding that he only had “the one.”

He then walked over to Harrison Ford and asked if the actor “could get this to [Steven] Spielberg.”

Colbert presented the award of Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, which was won by Seth Rogen for his role in “The Studio.”

Last July, Colbert announced that “The Late Show” was ending in 2026 after more than three decades on the air.

CBS claimed that the decision was “purely financial,” but some believed Colbert’s regular skewering of the current administration may have played a factor in the show’s cancellation.

Earlier in the evening, Colbert was interviewed by E!, on the red carpet, where he was asked what fans can expect from him.

“So the next thing is we’ve got nine more months of the show,” he said alongside his wife, Evie. “We’re going to have a really good time.”

“I mean, this show is all-consuming every day,” he continued, “so that’s it for now.”

Colbert, who is up for an Emmy for the outstanding talk series category, shared he hoped for a win if only to honor “the people who do the show every day and teach me what it’s like to be a professional.”
